Reports confirm 56 deaths and 190 injurers in deadly blast in Mosque in Peshawar

During the Friday prayer, a deadly blast occurred at a Shia Mosque in Peshawar’s Kocha Risaldar area killing 56 and injuring more than 190. People were gathered for the Friday prayer when a suicide attacker entered the mosque and blew himself. Initially, it was claimed that the incident involved two attackers. However, CCV footage revealed a man in a black dress brandishing a pistol entered the mosque. He opened the fire on the police guards at the gate and on a person who tried to stop him. Soon, a blast was heard spreading dust and fear all around. CCPO Peshawar Muhammad Ijaz Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IG Police Moazzam Jah Ansari confirmed the casualties and said there was no prior threat reporting. The senior police officials confirmed that around 6 Kilograms of explosive was used in the attack.

The Lady Reading Hospital confirmed the deaths and said that some injured are in critical condition. Medical staff is called from the other hospitals. State officials and opposition leaders condemned the attack. Shehbaz Shareef tweeted, “Heart-wrenching terrorist incident in Peshawar in which so many precious lives have been lost. Words can’t adequately condemn the sheer brutality. Terrorism continues to remain our foremost national challenge. Prayers & condolences are with the bereaved families.”
