Pakistan asks to seek Russian government assistance to evacuate Pakistani citizens from Ukraine

Pakistan has adopted to follow international law and to support international treaties to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi called his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine. He asked for the Russian government’s assistance to evacuate Pakistani citizens from Ukraine. Russia in the last week invaded Ukraine causing severe humanitarian issues. As a result, Western countries imposed severe economic sanctions on Russia which actually crippled its economy. Pakistan has adopted to follow international law and to support international treaties to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to Russia just amid the inception of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was severely criticized by the international community. However, Pakistan has made it clear that it will support the peaceful resolution of the conflict. US State Department spokesperson said, “We have briefed the government of Pakistan on the impact that Russia’s unprovoked war against Ukraine could have on regional and global security.”

Russian forces are advancing in Ukraine capturing multiple cities. The talks between both countries failed due to unwanted conditions. However, for humanitarian concerns, Russia has announced a temporary truce for the evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from Mariupol and Volnovakha.
